Homesteading Classes

Homesteading is really just another name for the way our grand or great grand parents used to live. Every family kept a flock of chickens for meat and eggs, a cow or goat for milk and a big garden for their produce. Convenience foods were not invented yet so you either made do or did without. Our concern that some of these "old time" skills are being lost prompted us to start homesteading classes several years ago. The list below will give you an idea of what we offer. If there's something else you're interested in, please contact us (via email) and we'll do a class if we can! Some details on the classes below.

General Question and Answer Time - you may want to investigate homesteading and see if it's for you - bring a list of questions and let me know your interest and we'll brainstorm with you.

Yeast Bread Making

Spring Gardening - depending on the weather! includes planning the garden, seed starting, growing under lights and basic moon sign planting

Basic Dairy Goat Care - including baby goat care - provided the goats cooperate! and goat milking

A few Class details -

I've not found an easy way to schedule classes so it's best if you email me your weekday preferred date and we'll go from there.

Generally time is 8 am - 12:00 noon, roughly. Plan on that time frame but leave  some leeway just in case. Chicken butchering is an except - it will likely be an all day class.

Cost is $100 per participant. Don't panic at that cost - if you can bring a participant with you the charge will be $50 for each participant. This works only if I do not have to correspond with more than just one person to set up the class. My biggest problem is scheduling with more than one participant so if you take care of that for me, I'd be glad to reduce the price. But if I have to do a 4 hour class for just one participant I have to financially justify it.

Some, not all, classes have a nominal supply cost ($10 range) per participant. There may also be some things you will need to bring. A list will be provided, if so.

Payment is required one month prior to class. $10 late fee for less than one month.

No one under 18 without prior consent, please. Just let me know in the initial email. Some classes it really wouldn't matter, other classes it would be dangerous to have young children in attendance- i.e. soap making class. Children and lye are a dangerous mixture!
